American Leo- History
here we are 

The Leonberger was around 1860/1970

found not only in Europe but

also Mexiko, Valparaiso/Chile and 
North-America - Indiana and Philadelphia.

In 1860 there had been published an article in a
newspaper from Philadelphia:

"Miss Wellesley got a very fine exemplar of a Leonberger dog. 
It is a georgeous animal and it looks as fine as the others imported by Miss Wellesley last spring"

This simply expresses that this "Miss Wellesley" had in 1859 (spring) and 1860 already imported Leonberger dogs to the USA !!!

So maybe - if they have an archive with the very old magazines - it might be possible to find out in the years 1859/1860 something about the import of this Leos !!!

"human families" for good
(e.g. Kennel v.d. Heckenrose, Kaufmann-Family).

as this can be read once in the Leoletter
and later in the book, when published.

This should only make us all aware of the fact
that we share Leos out from the same genetic pool
- and therefore the general healthiness of our
Leos is never the problem of any single country -

We are all obliged to work
together to learn about genetic and / or
healthproblems - for the betterment
of the breed in generally !
